Lower Back Pain Treatment & Prevention

Are you suffering from severe lower back pain? Do you wish you could find the treatment you need to heal for good?

Lower back pain has many causes, some obvious, some concealed. You may have injured your back while moving heavy boxes, slept funny, or have a herniated disc putting pressure on the sciatic nerve. Sitting or standing for long periods of time can cause stress on the lower back, too. Whatever the cause, it's crucial that you stay on top of lower back pain before the injury worsens. Here at Stelzer Chiropractic in San Antonio, TX, we've outlined some of our favorite tips for lower back pain relief and prevention.

Core Exercises

One of the best ways to prevent lower back pain and experience immediate relief is to build up core strength. During an average day, you aren't actively engaging your core muscles. If you specifically work on exercising your core, you'll build support for your lower spine. Space out twenty to thirty minutes of your day engaged in core exercises. Even sitting on an exercise ball for a few minutes will help create support for your lower back.

Cold Therapy

Applying ice packs to stressed muscles is another way to ease lower back pain. Cold therapy reduces inflammation, which is a major culprit of lower back pain, and reduces the chance of muscle spasms, as it slows down nerve impulses. You should ice the affected area for at least fifteen to twenty minutes for optimal benefits.

Hamstring Stretches

Have you noticed that your hamstring muscles are tight? This may be one of the causes of your lower back pain. Often an overlooked symptom, tight hamstring muscles pull on your lower back, causing pain. In order to relieve this symptom, you should gently stretch your hamstrings at least twice a day.

As you can see, there are several natural methods you can adopt to relieve lower back pain. For advanced lower back pain treatment, make an appointment with Stelzer Chiropractic in San Antonio, TX.
